Planets as Parts

Part of you wants to.Part of you doesn't.

Astrology has been naming those parts for a few thousand years. Spend an evening meeting yours.

Those parts already have names.

In a hypnosis session we talk to parts all the time: the part that wants the cookie, the part that won't let you rest. Astrology mapped the same cast long before anyone said "parts work." It calls them the planets.

The Moon is the part that needs. Saturn is the one that says "not yet" and carries everyone else's weight.

Three questions read any chart.

You don't need to memorize anything. Every placement in a chart answers the same three questions, and you already ask them about the people in your life.

Who?
The planet is the part.

The actual part of the personality, the one doing the talking.

How?
The sign is the flavor.

Same part, different accent. A Mars in Aries wants to fight. A Mars in Libra wants to fight fair, or not at all.

Where?
The house is the room.

The area of life where that part shows up, and the way you see that area: home, money, work, love.

The part is the actor. The sign is the costume and the accent. The house is the room it walks into.

♂︎ Mars (the fighter)+ ♋︎ Cancer (protective, led by feeling)+ 7th house (partnership)

= a protector who defends the relationship by reacting first, then feels it for days.

A reflection,not a remote control.

The planets don't make anyone do anything. You arrived in one place at one moment, and you came in with that moment's energy as a kind of default setting. You can learn it, and you can improve on it.

Once you know someone's leanings, you know where to help them refocus, reframe and redirect.

Everyone has all eight. Tap one and let it talk.

☽︎The Moon · the part that needs

"I just need to feel safe before you change anything."

At its best
The caretaker who makes everyone feel at home.
At its hardest
The comfort-seeker who reaches for a snack at 11 pm and clings to the familiar.
It wants
To feel safe.

Ask it: "What does this part get for you?"

you

No bad placements.

Above the line, a part has the right tools. Below it, the part is working with borrowed ones. Nobody lives only above the line.

The harder placements take longer to get comfortable with. They often turn into a person's greatest skill.

When parts meet.

When two planets are linked in a chart, those two parts stop acting alone. This is where most of the "why do I keep doing that?" lives.

  • Conjunction

    Two feel like one.

Venus with the Moon: wanting and needing blur together.

  • Square

    They keep bumping.

Mercury square the Moon: thoughts race whenever feelings rise.

  • Opposition

    A tug of war.

Mars opposite Saturn: push, brake, push, brake.

  • Trine and sextile

    Quiet helpers.

The Moon trine Jupiter: comfort comes easily, and so does hope.

When two parts battle, you don't pick a winner. You get them talking. The chart tells you which two to introduce.

The evening.

One hour, live and online.

Three questions to take home.

When a part shows up this week, ask yourself:

  1. What planet might act this way?
  2. What area of life does that part find important?
  3. Could there be more than one part competing here?

Hypnotist, astrologer, co-owner of Colorado Springs Hypnosis

Charles was a hypnotist before he was an astrologer. He picked up astrology out of curiosity, then noticed something he couldn't un-see: the chart showed him which part of a client was running the show before the client could say it.

He teaches the way he works with clients, down to earth and practical, with the odd joke along the way. He also built ZodiaLux, the app we'll use on the night.
